Key Stage 1

Cooking

Children in Chalfont St. Giles Infant School and Nursery are given the opportunity to take part in regular cooking sessions. This forms a vital part of their learning by giving them first hand experience and different tastes to try out.

Weekly Cooking Sessions

Weekly Cooking SessionsEach class has a parent volunteer helper who takes a different group of 5-6 children to the kitchen in the cottage each week. Here they learn about following recipes and basic food hygiene practises to create a whole variety of food for the rest of the class to share at the end of the day.

Weekly Cooking SessionsEach year group has their own recipe book which contains a number of ideas for sweet and savoury dishes, ensuring that the children experience a balance of different type of recipe throughout their time at our school.

Whole Class Cooking Sessions

Whole Class Cooking SessionsSometimes it is appropriate for the whole class to take part in a cooking session together, to enhance their learning in another area.

For example:

  • learning how to write and follow instructions in literacy
  • learning about how heat affects chocolate in science
