Key Stage 1
Cooking
Children in Chalfont St. Giles Infant School and Nursery are given the opportunity to take part in regular cooking sessions. This forms a vital part of their learning by giving them first hand experience and different tastes to try out.
Weekly Cooking Sessions
Each class has a parent volunteer helper who takes a different group of 5-6 children to the kitchen in the cottage each week. Here they learn about following recipes and basic food hygiene practises to create a whole variety of food for the rest of the class to share at the end of the day.
Each year group has their own recipe book which contains a number of ideas for sweet and savoury dishes, ensuring that the children experience a balance of different type of recipe throughout their time at our school.
Whole Class Cooking Sessions
Sometimes it is appropriate for the whole class to take part in a cooking session together, to enhance their learning in another area.
For example:
- learning how to write and follow instructions in literacy
- learning about how heat affects chocolate in science
