Foundation Stage

Assessment and Monitoring across the Foundation Stage

We make regular assessments of children’s learning, and we use this information to ensure that future planning reflects identified needs. Assessment in the Foundation Stage takes the form of observation and this involves the teacher and other adults as appropriate.

Each child in the Nursery receives a report at the end of their final term. Each child in the Infant school receives an annual report given to parents during July. The data is collected by staff by 30th June and reports are sent to parents two weeks later. New targets for the coming year are set and parents have an opportunity to discuss the report with the teachers should they wish to do so.

In Reception, teachers record children’s progression in the Foundation Stage Profile which is completed by the end of the Reception year. Children who have not achieved all the ELG’s will continue to work on these in Year 1.

Children’s progress is recorded in their pupil profile and on the schools "drive" using the Foundation Stage Profile. Throughout the Foundation Stage examples of work are collected for inclusion in the Foundation Stage portfolio on a termly basis. The portfolio is given to the children to take home at the end of the Foundation Stage.
