Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians                        20th May 2005

Request for help

Last year, the parents of the Year 2 children bought a weathervane for the school to put on the top of the gazebo in the playground.  Unfortunately, we have not been able to do this to date as we do not have the appropriate equipment.  Can any parent help please either with providing scaffolding which will enable us to fix the weathervane (the sloping roof is the problem), or in actually fixing it.  We would really appreciate any assistance. Many thanks!

Fantastic book offers

With this newsletter are the latest Scholastic Book Club leaflets with a great selection of books.  Please get your orders in to the School Office in an envelope marked “Scholastic Book Club” by Friday 27th May.  Cheques should be made out to “Chalfont St Giles Infant School & Nursery PTA”.  Any questions, please do ask Joanna Dear in the playground or call her on 01494 762119.

Arts Week

You will be receiving a letter next week about our joint Arts week with the Junior school. During the week beginning 7th June, both schools will be involved in creative activities, culminating in an exhibition on 14th and 15th June in the Junior school hall. Part of the activities will involve children from both schools working with an artist called Bhajan Hunjan. Bhajan specialises in printmaking and will be working with children in developing these skills. Please try to come and have a look at all of the wonderful work on display!

Long Hair

Please ensure that children with long hair have their hair tied back.  This reduces the possibility of headlice spreading.  Thank you.

Responses to class parents meeting

Car Parking (again)

Please do not park in the Staff car park!  A staff car was damaged this week and if anybody is seen parking or driving in and out to turn around, we will be taking details and informing the rest of the school in the newsletter.  A minority of parents continue to ignore our repeated requests and many people are concerned for the safety of their children.

A car driven by a parent narrowly missed one of the crocodiles of children walking to school yesterday.  The parent was driving out of the Memorial Hall lower car park at great speed.  PLEASE AVOID DRIVING UP SCHOOL LANE FOR SAFETY REASONS.

Lunchtime Toys/Games

Children may bring in named skipping ropes, soft balls, light-hoppers, hoops, Scooby doos, colouring and notebooks for use at lunchtimes. If any of these activities cause a problem we will review the situation.

Lining Up

Please ensure you move well away from the children when they are in their class lines in the morning as this is causing a lot of disruption and upset to many of the children.  Particularly could Sapphire class parents keep well away from the gate as Years 1 and 2 children cannot get past.  This also applies at the end of the day, when Sapphire children are dismissed.  Because there are so many pushchairs and prams around the gate it is difficult for the children to get to their parents.

Climbing Frame

Please remember that children are not allowed on the climbing frame before or after school.  More accidents occur at this time than during the school day because of the high numbers of children using it.  Any accidents that occur before or after school are your responsibility.  The children will also be reminded of this during assembly.

Noticeboards

Emerald’s noticeboard is being moved to the front of the building so that it is more accessible for parents. The other noticeboard outside Sapphire class will now be a noticeboard for both Sapphire and Pearl classes.

Lunchboxes

Please ensure that you do not overfill your children’s lunchboxes as some of them find it difficult to manage to eat everything before they go out to play.  The midday supervisors obviously encourage the children to eat a reasonable amount, but there is sometimes too much food.
