Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians                        17th June 2005

Nursery Sports Day

Well done to all the Nursery children today! They all worked hard and remembered what they had to do in the races! They seemed to enjoy themselves very much and we were lucky with the weather. Thank you to all the Nursery staff and helpers who made the day go very smoothly. Thank you also to all of you came to support them!

Infant School Sports Day

Sports day is next Wednesday 22nd June, starting at 10.30am.  Please come and support your child(ren).  You are welcome to stay and have lunch with the children.  The lunchtime supervisors will be in attendance as usual from 12.10 to 1.20pm, so you can leave at any time.  If the weather is poor, we will postpone Sports Day to the following day, Thursday 23rd June - any decision to cancel will be made in the morning.

Dates for your diary

There has been a change to our INSET days next academic year, so please note that 21st October 2005 is now a staff training day, instead of 6th June.   See dates below.

Art Week

We had a super Art week last week and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves! We had many positive comments from parents about how much the children got out of the experience, especially working with the resident artist, Christine Wilkinson. I hope as many of you as possible visited the exhibition at the Junior School – it is still on until the end of Monday 20th June!

Shed

Has anybody got a shed they no longer want? We are looking for something to keep the lunchtime equipment in, so it does not need to be very large. If you can help please let the school office know. Thank you.

Staff Changes

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Mrs Karen Carter, Special Support Assistant in Ruby Class and our Finance Assistant.  Mrs Carter is joining another school closer to her home and we wish her well.  We are currently recruiting to fill her position(s).

Coin Collection

Well done to Sapphire class who collected the most coins! They collected an amazing £83. The PTA are giving the class £25 to buy something for their classroom.

Strawberry Fayre

I am sure you need no reminder that it is the Strawberry Fayre on Saturday 25th June.  The PTA has been working hard to make this an enjoyable and successful event so please come and support us on the day.

Tissues

We have run out of tissues and would be grateful for donations of more boxes.  Thank you.

Parents’ Questionnaire

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete and return the questionnaire to parents.  If you did not have time to fill it in and would still like to do so, then we would be happy to receive any late returns by the end of next week (24th June).  We will report on the findings in the autumn term.

School Travel Plan News

from Donna Westall

School Lane Footway Proposal

Thank you to those people who have responded to my letter about a proposed footway along School Lane.  PLEASE can I have some more responses IN WRITING.  I need them to make my case for funding to the County Council.  So far I have more objections from residents than written support from parents and that is not going to get us anywhere.  If you do agree with the ideas, just a one line note to that effect will be fine.  If you have any other suggestions or issues I would also like to know about them.  Please write to me via the office or email to donnawestall@hotmail.com.

Footsteps Training for all Year 1

Footsteps training is now underway for all year 1 pupils.  All children will be taken out in pairs for two sessions over the next fortnight to teach them the basics of road safety.  A big thank you to Anita Weinel, Julie Hoibak, Alison Robinson, Deborah Perera, Dionne Dibble, Jo Walker, Alex Freeman and Wendy Flawn for giving up their time to train the children.

Walk to School Week

There was a good participation in Walk to School week just before half-term.  At least 75 children took part and received a bookmark which was stamped during the week and some gold star stickers with which to decorate it.

Bottrells Lane Crocodile

This Crocodile trail will be operating to the Junior School as well as the Infant School and Nursery from September, on Mondays and Thursdays walking via Albion Crescent and Milton Fields.  Please let me know if there are any new children interested in joining.
