Newsletter – 14th January 2005

 Newsletters:

Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians                   14th January 2005

Happy New Year and welcome to the new children in Pearl and the Nursery!

Changing Reading Books

Please could parents note our policy on changing reading books, and ensure that the books are only changed in school time with the agreement of the class teacher, not by parents at any time.

Absence Letters

In view of the unique circumstances at the end of the last term regarding absence due to illness, we have not asked for absence letters from parents whose children were off sick at that time.  In future, however, we will continue with our usual system of requiring a written explanation for any absence.

To date, we have asked you to send in a letter but have decided to change this to a new system which we hope will be easier and quicker for everyone concerned.  When your child is absent, you will receive via the book bag a form to complete and return either via the class teacher or direct to the office.  Please return the form promptly.  There may be a slight delay in sending the form out to you, as the registers are usually administered at the end of the week; if you wish to pick up a form from the office yourself, you are very welcome to do so.  Alternatively, if you wish to send us an email explaining the absence, rather than receive the form, that is equally acceptable as it will save on paperwork.

Nail Varnish

Please note that children should not wear nail varnish to school.  Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Mid-Day Supervisors

If you would be interested working as a mid-day supervisor at the school on a part-time basis, job-sharing with another member of staff, please contact the office.

Forest School

Following the very successful pilot scheme in the spring term of 2004, we are hoping to continue this wonderful experience of outdoor learning and are grateful to the PTA for agreeing to support this scheme through their fundraising.

The scheme will be available for children in the Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) and a meeting has been arranged for parents to find out more.  It will be held on 7th February at the Chiltern Open Air Museum at 8pm.  There will be a letter to follow next week.

Lift Share to/from Little Chalfont

A parent has expressed interest in organising a lift share to and from Little Chalfont.  If you live in that area and would like to share the school run, please let the office know.

Newsletters by email

We will not be sending out this newsletter via email, as the response was unfortunately not sufficient to make it worthwhile.  However, we are de-duping for families with more than one child at the school.

SATs Meeting

There will be a meeting for parents of Year 2 children who will be involved in SATs on Wednesday 23rd February. It will be held at 7.00pm in the School Hall.

NPQH

Congratulations to Mrs Peal for passing her National Professional Qualification for Headship! This requires a huge amount of effort and Mrs Peal worked extremely hard – many congratulations!

PTA Xmas Quiz

Congratulations to Mrs Caroline Brittain for winning the PTA Xmas Quiz at the end of last term. As a prize she received a free Xmas tree from Millennium trees, well done!

CSG Pet Shop

Thank you to Paul at the Chalfont St Giles pet shop for welcoming the Nursery, Sapphire and Pearl into his shop this week. The children were allowed to meet the animals and Paul generously gave us seeds and pet food for our topic work!
