Newsletter – 8th July 2005

 Newsletters:

Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians                        8th  July 2005

Due to technical reasons we were unable to send out the newsletter last week which had information regarding the induction day and Open evening. Therefore we sent out separate information regarding these issues earlier this week to rectify this. We hope this clarifies the position and apologise for any inconvenience.

This is the last newsletter of the year and as always it has come around very quickly! We have had a busy year and I think everyone is ready for a break! A few last items for you to read………….

Strawberry Fayre

Well done to everyone who helped with the Strawberry Fayre! It raised approximately £7000, a superb achievement! So thank you particularly to Debra Olleavant, Helen Goodey and the members of the PTA!

Plastic Recycling bins

Thank you to everyone who uses our recycling bins.  There are obviously many of you who take the trouble to leave your plastic bottles because the bin fills up so quickly!  We are aware that this causes a problem when the Council fails to collect regularly.  If the bin is full, please do not leave your plastic until it is emptied again.  Mr Nash is in contact with the Council to see if they can improve their service with regard to emptying the bins.

Staff changes

We are sorry to be saying goodbye to a couple of staff this year. Mrs Karen Carter, our finance assistant and SSA left last week and has gained promotion at a school in Slough. We will miss her very much and wish her good luck for the future. Also, Mrs Peggy Gorton will be moving on at the end of term – she has been a very valued member of staff for the past four years and we will all miss her very much. I would like to thank her for all her hard work and support in her time at Chalfont St Giles and we wish her all the best for the future.

We welcome Miss Jayne Clynes who has taken over as finance assistant in the office, and in September we look forward to having Miss Lisa Davies as class teacher for Emerald class, Mrs Jo Bolton and Mrs Suzanne Walker as SSA’s.

Basic Skills Quality Mark

I am pleased to announce that Chalfont St Giles Infant School and Nursery has been awarded the Basic Skills Quality Mark for Primary Schools! The Quality Mark is awarded to schools who are meeting the requirements of ten elements in basic skills ie Literacy and Numeracy. These ten elements cover a number of aspects such as a whole school strategy to improve performance in basic skills, a commitment to individual plans, targets, reviews and assessments in basic skills, the use of a range of teaching styles and the use of appropriate teaching and learning material. We should be receiving our plaque by the end of term!

School Uniform

Could I remind everyone to check our uniform policy list if you are buying any new items for September (available in the office). Thank you for your co-operation.

Lost property

Any lost property not claimed by the end of term (21st July) will be donated to the charity shop or thrown away. The box is kept in the shared area outside the Y2 classes. Please feel free to check it at any time.

Leavers Assembly

A reminder that the Leavers Assembly for Y2 parents is on Friday 15th July at 9.30am. This will be in the Memorial Hall and refreshments will be available afterwards.

Reports

Reports were sent home in the book bags today. Please could you fill in the evaluation forms and return to school by the end of term. Thank you.

Flower Festival

A reminder that we will be holding our Flower Festival service at St Giles Church on Tuesday 19th July at 9.15. We do hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend. We would like the children to each bring a posy of flowers to place in the two trees set in front of the church. This makes a beautiful display that is appreciated by the whole village. Please be considerate of the children who are taking part by keeping younger siblings as quiet as possible.

Junior School BBQ

A reminder that the Junior school will be holding their annual BBQ on the 15th July from 5.00pm to 9.00pm.

 (From the PTA)

Hot Dog Lunch

We are again offering children the opportunity to purchase hotdogs for lunch on the last day of term, Thursday 21st July.

Payment of £1.50 will be required in advance ( £2.00 for two hotdogs ) and will include one hotdog, a choice of juice/water and crisps. Additional fruit will also be offered, but any other extras should be supplied from home.

Please complete order forms which you will find in the book bags and return them with payment by Friday 15th July in an envelope, marked ‘HOTDOGS/ PTA’

This was very popular last term so hopefully, if parents support it we can offer it at the end of each term. All profits will go to school funds and if anyone could spare some time on the 21st July please see a member of the PTA. Thank you.

I would like to thank all the parents who have been so supportive this year, the PTA for their tireless fund-raising, the Governors for all their involvement and support, the staff for all their hard work and  dedication and the children for their cheerful attitude to school that makes our job so pleasant!

I hope you all have a restful summer, and look forward to seeing those of you who will be back for the new term in September!
