Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians 6th
May 2005 Taking We
are aware not everyone is familiar with the correct procedure: Holidays should be taken
during recognised school holiday periods. To
aid the booking of holidays, school holiday dates for the coming year will be
published in September. Taking holidays in term time is strongly discouraged
because it disrupts the children’s education. The DfES
requirements state that up to ten days absence may be permitted by the
Governors in exceptional circumstances. This does not mean that
holidays taken during term time will be automatically allowed. If
permission is to be granted, the school must be informed at least one month
in advance. The exceptional reason for this request must be detailed on the
Application for Leave form (copies available from the Office). Granting
holiday absence is entirely at the discretion of the Governors and it is
quite possible that your child will receive an “unauthorised absence”. This then remains with them for the rest of
their school life. Please note
that you should complete the appropriate form (as explained above) well in
advance and that you should give a full explanation as to why you need to
take holiday in term time (putting “family holiday” as a reason is not
sufficient). “ Medication Please ensure
all medication is handed to a member of staff and not left in bookbags as it is a risk that any unsupervised medication
could be taken by other children. Health & Safety Please be
aware that there are a few significant ‘dips’ in the playground surface. We
are in the process of having these filled by County, but in the meantime, if
you have an accident please inform the office. Mrs Ballard Mrs Ballard
will be taking some unpaid leave whilst she and her husband travel around the
world for 6 months. Mrs Ballard intends to be absent from school during the
Autumn term 2005 and the first half of the Spring term 2006, after which she
will be delighted to return to Chalfont St Giles Nursery. We wish both Mr and
Mrs Ballard well during this time. During her absence Mrs Niky
Shreeve will be covering as Nursery Teacher with
the continued support of Mrs Brown, Mrs Byrne and Mrs Gregory. Maypole Dancing Well done to
all the Year 2 pupils for taking part in the two Maypole dancing activities
on the Green. They have made an excellent job of mastering the dances. Thank
you also to Mrs Penrose who gave up a lot of time teaching them. Nursery Outing A reminder
that the Nursery outing to Langleybury Farm is now
on Friday 1st July. Butterflies Don’t forget
to bring in your 1ps and 2ps for the butterflies! Keep an eye on the chart to
see who is in the lead! The chart will be up on the notice board in the
entrance to the main school. Sainsbury tokens Please keep
collecting Sainsbury tokens – we need another 2,000 to buy a parachute and
games for lunchtime, so if you shop at Sainsburys
don’t forget to ask for vouchers. Persil Vouchers Thank you to
everyone who is donating their Persil Vouchers to the school. The PTA asks that you hand in all your
vouchers by half-term please. Crocodile Trails – Walking
to School in Style! You
may be aware that we have two Crocodile Trails operating to the school. That’s us in the bright yellow
tabards. Crocodiles are a way of
walking children to school with a specified number of trained parent escorts
and under strict road safety rules.
Children also receive road safety training before they take part. We
feel that more parents and children could benefit from the scheme, reducing
the number of car journeys to school and gaining the health benefits of
walking. If you have to get to work or
to another school or nursery to drop off other children, you could leave your
child at a designated “croc stop” on the Crocodile Trail routes from where
he/she would be taken on to school. Both
routes run on Mondays and Thursdays and times are: Cherry
Rise 8.15 am Corner
of Albion
Crescent/Milton Fields junction 8.45am Both
routes drop children at both the Infant School and Nursery. The Kings Road Crocodile also drops off at
the Middle School and the A
Crocodile has operated from the Lagger and could be
restarted with a couple more volunteers.
A route from the White Hart at Threehouseholds
has also been proposed and could be set up if there were enough
interest. Depending
on the route, your circumstances and the number of volunteers you may
sometimes be asked to act as an escort on a mutually agreed rota. If
you want to find out more please speak to one of us by phone or in the
playground. Alison
