Chalfont St Giles Infant School & Nursery
Newsletter – 4th March 2005

 Newsletters:

Dear Parents/Friends/Guardians                        4th March 2005

If any unforeseen circumstances occur, you can access the Bucks County website to check whether the school is closed or not.  The address is www.buckscc.gov.uk.  Once you have accessed this page, click on ‘parentzone’ then ‘school closures’. If you cannot find the school listed, it has not been closed.

Public Open Day

We will be holding our annual Public Open Day on 10th March. The Infant School and Nursery will be open for members of the public to come and find out what our school is all about! Please tell anyone you know who is in the process of choosing a school for their child to come and visit. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day and invite everyone to come along, observe and join in where possible!

Assemblies

Nursery PM Assembly will now be held on the 16th March, rather than the 9th March. Due to the cancellation of Ruby Assembly because of the snow, Ruby Assembly will now be on Monday 14th March instead.

Hot Dog Lunch

On the last day of term, Thursday 24th March, the PTA is offering you the chance to buy a hotdog lunch for your child.  Lunch will include one hotdog, crisps and a choice of juice.  Payment of £1.50 will be required in advance (£2 for two hotdogs).  We will be offering a vegetarian option, and ketchup!  Order forms will be in book bags in due course, with further details.  All profits will go to school funds, so please support us on this trial, which may be offered on other dates if successful, and save on making the odd packed lunch!  If anyone could lend an hour to help on the day, please see a member of the PTA.

The City of London Academy

Boys from the City of London Academy in Southwark have been involved in an art project with our school. The boys have been working with children from all year groups to make a mural for the Nursery and a sculpture for the Millennium Garden. They will be visiting again on Monday 7th March with the Vice-principal, David Davies, to continue working on the project. The finished results should be ready in the latter half of the summer term!

World Book Day

The children celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March.  Each year group used different authors and themes as a stimulus for their work during the day:

Nursery: Elmer Stories

Pearl: Percy the Park Keeper stories

Sapphire: Nick Sharratt

Emerald: Trees and forests.

Ruby: Jill Murphy

Amethyst: Roald Dahl

Diamond: Dick King Smith

It was very exciting and the children really enjoyed themselves.  At the end of the day your children all brought home a £1 book voucher towards buying a new book.  We hope they enjoy them.

Red Nose Day Friday 11th March

Along with the Junior School we are celebrating red nose day in order to raise money for the needy causes that this charity supports. We are encouraging all the children to wear red clothes (please make sure they are comfortable and warm) and to bring in a donation. This year’s theme for red nose day is… Big Hair and Beyond… I wonder what we will see on the day!!

Barn Dance

The PTA and Governors are holding a fundraising Barn Dance on Saturday 21st May. Details are being sent via bookbags.  Please come along and support us – it promises to be an excellent evening! There will be an experienced caller and a bar. Tickets cost £17.50 per person which includes a hog roast meal and a sweet.  Tickets are available from various PTA members. The money raised from this event is going towards helping reduce the school’s deficit budget, so please come along and have a great time!

Butterflies

We will again be collecting 2ps and 1ps for our butterfly pupae this year. Last year it was very successful and the children really enjoyed watching the pupae develop and grow in the pavilions. The jars will be ready for the coins at the start of the summer term and we will be watching to see which class can collect the most!

Easter Service

Don't forget we will be holding our Easter Service at St Giles Church on Tuesday 22nd March at 9.15am. This will be a celebration of songs, readings and poems by all the children. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend.

Egg Rolling

The PTA will be holding an egg rolling competition again on the Shakman playground at 2.15pm on the 22nd March. Prizes will be given for the egg that rolls the furthest. Please come along and support us!

Videos /DVDs

If anyone has any old videos or DVDs they no longer want, the school would be very grateful to receive them as we are in the process of building up resources!

Recycling

If you noticed the untidy state of the recycling bins lately, it is because the collection was three weeks’ overdue.  The plastic has now been collected.  If the bins are full in the future, we would ask that you do not leave bags of plastic next to the bins – thank you.

End of term/beginning of summer term

A reminder to Nursery parents that the last day of term is Tuesday 22nd March.  Infant School children finish school on Thursday 24th March, at the earlier time of 2pm.

As there will not be another newsletter before Easter, may I wish you all a very enjoyable holiday.  Infant School children return on 11th April (when the new Nursery children visit).  Nursery starts on Tuesday 12th April.  We look forward to seeing you then.
