Admissions

Nursery Class

The nursery operates on a session basis and children attend for either five mornings or five afternoons each week. Children normally enter the nursery in the term they become four but, if there are vacancies, your child may be offered a place at a slightly younger age. Childrens names can be placed on a pre-registration waiting list at any age, although this does not guarantee a place.

There is no reserved area and no charge is made. Certain criteria are used to determine admission if the nursery is over-subscribed but, in practice, it is normally possible to offer a place to all applicants. Further details can be found in the School prospectus or by calling the School.

Infant School

Children are normally admitted to the school at the start of the term in which they have their fifth birthday and are termed Rising Fives. The school has three intakes into the Reception year with all children attending on a full time basis. The LEA cannot assume a parent's preference for a local school and set aside a place for your child. Your preference has to be in writing within a set timeframe: to help you with this, the LEA produces an annual booklet containing much of the information you will need to make your choice.

As all our classes are up to and including Key Stage 1 children we are not normally allowed to have more than 30 pupils in each class. This means that we cannot guarantee your child a place at our school if we are full. The County Admissions Team (tel: 01296-393250) maintains a waiting list for the school should you wish your child to attend when a vacancy becomes available. The school Secretary may also have information to help you.

Visiting Arrangements

All new parents and children are welcome to visit the school. An appointment should be made so that an interview can be arranged with the Headteacher together with a tour of the school. Please telephone the school Secretary on 01494 872160. Public open days are arranged on an annual basis when you are most welcome to see the school 'in action'.

Access to School

Access to the school is via School Lane which is a narrow, one way road. There can be severe congestion in this lane at the start and end of the school day and we would strongly advise parents who drive to park away from the school and walk to the playground. The school supports a walk to school incentive scheme, in conjunction with Chiltern County Council called 'Go for Gold' to encourage children and parents to walk to school. The scheme is a fun way to encourage walking to and from school. The children can work through the scheme receiving green, bronze and silver awards along the way - "walking" towards achieving a gold star and gold award. It will run during the summer and autumn terms.

The aim is to reduce the number of car trips made to and from school, to encourage walking, promote healthier lifestyles for pupils and their families and to reduce pollution in and around the school.

Building Project

The school has recently undergone major structural building work. This has involved the removal of the temporary classrooms and a new permanent structure put in place. This has added to the character of the school and has made the building a much safer, more attractive environment for the children. In addition, a new medical room has been built as well as a disabled lift and toilet, ensuring we are a school fully equipped for inclusion.
