Health & Safety

From 1st November 1986, the schools meal service was reduced to the statutory minimum in Buckinghamshire schools. The county Council now provides packed lunches where there are financial difficulties. Parents should contact the Headteacher for further details. Children may also go home for lunch but the school must be informed by letter. If your child does go home for lunch parents assume responsibility from 12.10 - 1.20pm. We do not allow children to leave the school premises without being accompanied by an adult.

Medication/Accidents

It is important that the school has an emergency contact number for each child so that parents can be contacted if the need arises.

If a child becomes ill during the day, parents are contacted immediately. The teacher or Learning Support Assistant (LSA) will take care of the child until the parents get in touch with the school. If a child is under a doctor due to illness it is recommended that they should stay at home until fully recovered.

On occasions a child may have to take medication whilst at school. It is requested that medicine is brought to the school office or to the LSA and the child's name is entered in a medication book. Medication must not be kept in a child's bag. The school cannot administer any medication unless prescribed by a doctor. There is always at least one member of staff who holds a current First Aid certificate.

Sun creams should be applied before school. This should cover them for the amount of time they are out in the sun during the school day.

Security

Chalfont St Giles Infant School and Nursery is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all the children, staff and visitors. The children do not leave the school grounds without adult supervision and the governors, site manager and Headteacher undertake regular risk assessments of security.

The school has a Visitors Policy which requires all visitors to report to reception, sign in and wear a badge whilst on the premises. Special security locks have been fitted to limit access into the main school and entry to the school is via the main door which has an entry bell. The school has established procedures to deal with any emergency situation that may arise and all staff and pupils are familiar with the emergency procedures. Fire and security alarms have also been installed in the school.
