Forest School

Partnership between The Chiltern Open Air Museum, The Hawk and Owl Trust and Chalfont St. Giles Infant School and Nursery.

Children at Chalfont St. Giles Infant School and Nursery are fortunate enough to have the opportunity in their final term of Foundation 1 to attend Forest School.

Based on a Danish idea, Forest School is a way of incorporating regular outdoor learning experiences for children in their normal school life. It means that children, their teacher and a qualified Forest School Leader spend a morning or afternoon a week in a woodland setting near to our school, working to their usual curriculum but in the woodland context. Teaching and Learning methods that develop confidence, self-esteem, a positive disposition to learning, social skills and teamwork are used and it is appropriate for children of all ages, especially nursery age children.
